Luigi’s Pizza Parlor was founded in 1953 by a group of Southern Italian bookmakers. The proprietors created pizza, pasta, and sauces from scratch as a cover for their illicit gaming, hoping that the Sacramento Police Department would ignore their back-room card games and gambling. Maristane Rocha, the proprietor of Luigi’s Italian Gourmet Restaurant, takes little credit for the restaurant’s 50th anniversary. It was founded in 1953. In 2019 the traditions of Luigi’s Pizza Parlor were once again passed on. This time to Sacramento-local families with a deep love for pizza and beer. Having grown up eating at Luigi’s we are excited to welcome you back to your neighborhood pizza parlor.
