Roe Hatlen and C. Dennis Scott, along with Dermot Rowland and Doris Jensen, formed the firm on October 19, 1983. in order to launch Homestyle Buffet in Clearwater, Florida in 1986, Rowland and Jensen left the company and moved to Florida. A year later, Scott opened his own chain, HomeTown Buffet, which merged with the original business a year later in 1996.
