Herrell’s Renaissance Cafe Menu
Steve Herrell, our founder, launched the first Steve’s Ice Cream in Somerville, Massachusetts, near Boston, in 1973. Steve pioneered the revival of the homemade, fresh, “gourmet” ice cream trade, transforming the then-stagnant ice cream market by delivering the finest quality, best flavoured ice cream available anywhere. Steve modified the motor of a small batch freezer to make an ice cream that was exceptionally rich, creamy, and low-air, comparable to ice cream prepared in a hand-cranked freezer.
Steve was the first to combine popular sweets and candies such as Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups®, Heath Bars®, and Oreos® into his ice cream. This popularised the “Smoosh-in®,” giving rise to our love of flavours like Cookies ‘n’ Cream and Heath Bar® Crunch, which are now classics in the ice cream business.
