Haru Menu
Harvey’s was created in 1959 by Montreal native Richard Mauran, eight years before the first McDonald’s debuted in the country. Mr. Mauran, a young entrepreneur, had a notion for a new type of restaurant after seeing one in Buffalo, New York. In the summer of 1959, he came up with the name Harvey’s after seeing the name of a car dealership in the Toronto Telegram. Humphrey’s was apparently considered as well, but was rejected.
Cara is the current owner of Harvey’s Restaurants. In the early 1980s, Mr. Mauran sold the firm, along with Swiss Chalet, another Canadian institution he created. Cara representatives declined to comment on the initial store’s closure.
