Baraka Cafe Menu
For more than two decades, Baraka has been a Cambridge institution, combining the sophisticated tastes of French cuisine with the vitality of North African cuisines. Alia Meddeb was born to a local pastry maker in Lille, France and a Tunisian antiquity trader. She grew up in her parents’ kitchens with fresh produce from her garden and cooked traditional French and Tunisian meals. Meddeb created her own culinary style and was inspired by a love of her family and her enthusiasm for cooking throughout her life. As she maintains traditional North African and French cuisine her distinct creative touches enrich Baraka’s recipes.’… persistence in every kind of art is really important,’ adds Meddeb. ‘Cooking is like a ladder; the higher you climb, the closer you get to the ultimate flavour…’ Meddeb began a career as a Line Chef at Café Blasé in Provincetown, MA, following her studies in Lycée de Carthage in Tunisia and the business school in Massachusetts. She was working for quite some time before serving as a Party Chef at Boston’s famous restaurant L’Espalier, where she was responsible for pastries, pâtés and terrines. Later in the Marquesa Hotel in Key West, Florida and also in exclusive Little Palm Island R she served as assistant chief executive alongside Marcelo Vasquez and Susan Ferry.
